Community Wildfire Resiliency

Carolina Land & Lakes was awarded the Community Wildfire Defense Grant (CWDG) to update the community wildfire protection plans (CWPPs) in North Carolina. CWPPs are strategic plans developed by fire districts to guide wildfire mitigation and facilitate fire adapted communities based on specific community needs.

Carolina Land & Lakes (CLL) was awarded the 2023 Community Wildfire Defense Grant (CWDG) to create a Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) Qualla Boundary. Carolina Land & Lakes is working with the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), EBCI and other stakeholders located within the landscape. CLL will create the Qualla Boundary CWPP and incorporate the recently revised EBCI Wildland Fire Prevention Plan approved by the BIA Prevention Program Standards.
